Route Day 1: Arrival in Japan

We would all agree that the worst part of visiting Japan are the long hours spent in airplanes both the outward and return. It is the tribute to be paid (other than pasta tickets cost) while the booths teleportadoras invent.

We land at Kansai airport in Osaka at 16:55. Kansai International Airport (关西国际空港, 'Kansai Kokusai Kuko'?, IATA: KIX, ICAO: RJBB) is an international airport located on an artificial island in Osaka Bay .. It was opened on September 4, 1994.

Here you have a video on the airport:

The airport also serves as a hub for Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Nippon Cargo Airlines. It is the gateway to the Kansai region, comprising the cities of Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe, among others. Domestic flights are conducted since the previous International Airport in Osaka Itami.

The terminal is a four-story building designed by Renzo Piano. Terminal is the world's longest with a length of 1.7 km from end to end. A sophisticated pedestrian transportation system moves passengers from one extreme to another.

The roof of the terminal was designed in the shape of the profile of an airplane wing, so that is used by your ventilation system. The air is driven from one side of the terminal, and the curvature of the roof leads the air to the other side in the transverse direction, which is collected.

Inside the airport is the station where for the Limited Express Haruka, in 1 hour and 15 minutes takes you to Kyoto and other destinations. That will be our choice. Although aterrizemos at 17:00, we have to pass security checks of the airport, collect your bags and find the station, so the earliest will take the LEHaruka of 18:15 or 18:45 because of these Trains leave every half hour.

We arrived at Kyoto Station at about 19:34, or 20:05 if we lose the first train in the immigration queue. This season was finished 10 years ago and presents a very modern architecture stands out in a city like Kyoto which caused quite a controversy. The current Kyoto Station opened its doors in 1997, commemorating the 1200th anniversary of Kyoto. It is 70 meters high and 470 meters from east to west, with a total area of 238,000 meters square.

Architecturally, many features futuristic, with a facade composed of cubes of flat glass in a steel frame. The architect was Hiroshi Hara.

It has 11 floors, 2 shopping centers and offices. The roof structure is based on the old map of the city consists of squares but in a structure in 3 dimensions.

After some fotillos us at the station we have to move towards the hotel. Given that we maletones loaded with the best option is to pull Taxi. Understanding with the driver should suffice to show the map below.

In case you want to stretch your legs is a 10 minute walk, this is the map provided in the hotel:

Just in case, clarified the way from Google Earth. just outside the station we have to take that avenue to the north:

This is a photo of the aforementioned input avenue leading to the north:

We have to move along this avenue to cross 3 lanes (not counting the parking tickets) in the third crossing we turned westward:

This is a picture of the intersection where you turn:

Then continue until you cross 3 blocks west, at the third intersection turn north again finally:

This is a picture of the intersection where you turn to the north:

A few meters further on we find the door of the hotel:

I figure we arrive at the hotel between 20:00 and 20:30. There had to check-in, locate the room and cool off. When we are ready we will go to dinner and as will later have dinner near the hotel.

For this first night we will walk up to Coco's Curry Ichibanya establishment.

That CUUUUUUUURRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYY rich!!

As you can see in this international menu , the famous Coco's Curry Ichibanya (even has its own video game for the PS2 ) is endlessly configurable. To begin choose based meat: pork, chicken, veal, fish, omelet, natto, calamari, eggplant, mushrooms, cheese, prawns .... Then choose the amount of rice. With hindsight we chose the degree of strength of curry from 10 different levels of hotness. When we have the dish, choose the "Toppings" or added between: garlic fried, boiled egg, poached egg, tomato, corn, tuna, potato salad or bacon. Besides we have several to accompany salads and some desserts.

It remains to clarify how we got there without getting lost. It is relatively simple. As shown in the picture below you have to take the hotel's street north to reach a main road after crossing 7 streets. We crossed the street and the street going east to reach the restaurant located in a corner next to a McDonald's.

This is the avenue where you should head to the east after crossing:

This is the corner where we find the CoCo's Curry Ichibanya:

After enjoying the curry we only walk back to the hotel and rest, we deserve it after so many hours by plane. See you tomorrow.

Greetings Omar, I replied directly to your email. Regarding the shirt to buy it at the Tokyo Dome, Giants Stadium!

When I put prices, usually because there is a subway or tram which is not included in JRPass.

Hi Rafa! Me too ... my name is Rafa delighted.
I've been watching and reading all your experiences and routes.
My girlfriend and I traveled this August, but we go from Narita to Kyoto for the "Tour Club".
We are many routes you to view Japan as we are quite lost.
I have a question, to go to Kyoto, we have ¿always take "Narita Espress" (every 30 min) to Tokyo and there a "Hikari" (every 30 min) to Kyoto?

Is that in the "Hyperdia" I appear on other routes, other destinations such as "Shinagawa" instead of Tokyo and other trains as "Keisei, etc. .." instead of Narita Espress.

Is it better to make the journey from Narita Espress> Tokyo and Hikari> Kyoto, hoping his 30 minutes?

Thanks in advance and congratulations on your site helps me a lot.
A greeting.

Greetings Rafa-san, if you find a better route HIPERDIA Use it for sure. Think I posting routes are most appropriate for that exact time ... in a post a few weeks ago about planning your own travel review advised on all routes in HIPERDIA to fit. Q be mindful not use the Nozomi and are routes with the least possible changes of train.
